Stepping Into Confidence
Marnus Botha Road to Mr. SA: Embracing Challenges and Inspiring Change
Marnus Botha has been selected as one of the Top 60 contestants in the Mr. South Africa competition. Through this platform, Marnus and his fellow contestants are mentored to become positive male role models, participating in various challenges such as representing South African brands, engaging in charity work, and undergoing public voting, formal interviews, and photoshoots. We interviewed Marnus to learn more about his journey, exploring confidence, fun and stepping out of his comfort zone.
What inspired you to join the Mr. SA Competition, especially considering it’s so different from your office job at the City of Cape Town?
“I’ve known from a very young age that I have this God given untapped potential within me that needs to be shared with the world. I believe that Mr South Africa is a platform for the ordinary average South African guy to do and achieve extraordinary things. It is a way to improve society by transforming yourself into the person you were always meant to be.
I see this as a great opportunity to combine my work environment at the City of Cape Town and the Mr South Africa platform to motivate, inspire, encourage and ultimately serve people in our country that need it the most.”
How do you incorporate fun and confidence into your daily life?
“I embrace fun and confidence by exploring Cape Town, enjoying time with friends, and seeking spontaneous adventures. These activities keep life vibrant and joyful. Confidence for me means believing in oneself, celebrating achievements, and learning from setbacks. This mindset makes life more fulfilling and empowering. ”
How does Franklees, resonate with your journey?
“My favourite aspects of Franklees are the quality, comfort and stylish designs of the underwear. This is really important for me personally, since I value both functionality and aesthetic appeal in my daily life. The premium materials provide a soft and luxurious feel against my skin, which is perfect for someone who has an active lifestyle. Although other people cannot see the underwear just the fact that I know I’m wearing Franklees gives me that confidence boost to tackle every day! ”
How has participating in Mr. SA pushed you out of your comfort zone and how do you maintain your confidence?
“Participating in Mr. South Africa has been a transformative experience, pushing me beyond my comfort zone. I’ve had to face the spotlight and be vulnerable on social media, which required newfound courage. Maintaining confidence involves reminding myself of my worth among impressive contestants and confronting my insecurities. This journey has taught me that true growth comes from embracing discomfort and staying resilient. ”
Marnus aims to use the Mr. South Africa platform to inspire people nationally and internationally, encouraging the youth to vote for a government they deserve. He wants to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, like students affected by the energy crisis. With a passion for infrastructure and service delivery, he believes he can make a significant impact on people's lives. During his Mr. South Africa journey, Marnus partnered with Love Your Nuts, a non-profit raising awareness about testicular cancer in South Africa. The organization educates communities about this often-overlooked disease, focusing on young men through running and cycling events. Marnus hopes to save lives by spreading awareness through social media.
